On Wednesday, February 28, the CCHS Family came together for the Scoops and Hoops Tournament to benefit Lazarus House Ministries.

This new initiative was conceived and organized by students enrolled in the 贫困，政策和正义课程 由宗教研究系提供.

Scoops and Hoops is a single-elimination basketball tournament to raise funds for Lazarus House Ministries. There will be a student team from each year level, and one staff team. Games will be short, culminating in a final match up of students versus staff. 买入价格为每位玩家10美元, 当然, there will be ice cream (Hoodsies) and additional items for sale for the spectators.

关于拉撒路家庭事工

Since opening its doors as an emergency homeless shelter in 1983, Lazarus House has been breaking the cycle of poverty in the Merrimack Valley region.

Their food and clothing programs assist families by stretching their dollars so they can afford rent, 热, 和公用事业. Housing provides a safe haven for homeless families and individuals.

Lazarus House Ministries was co-founded by a 3月ist 兄弟ther and member of the CCHS 教师 & 管理: 兄弟. 托马斯·皮特，FMS.

All students participate in our Marist Service Experience, 有一天, in which they give at least one day (24 hours) of service to those who need it most.

Over 80% of CCHS students give well beyond their one day of service and continue to assist those in need. The program grows from the mission of 中央天主教高中: to make Jesus known and loved, 教育整个人, 为他人服务, 尤其是最不受欢迎的人.

服务 projects and opportunities are designed to help students discover how they can make a difference in our world by leading and through building relationships with the least favored.

学生 often volunteer their time to assist the poor, 无家可归的人, 生病的人, 老年人, 那些在养老院或辅助生活的人, as well as people who are mentally or physically challenged or have special needs.

Campus Ministry offers a 3月ist Day of 服务 several times each year during the school day, 对数量有限的大一和大二学生开放.

学生 will miss their Friday classes and are responsible for all missed material.

服务 is a key component of our Campus Ministry program.

Participants will perform service at local organizations and discuss the importance of service and why volunteering is being 3月ist.

学生 take time for prayer, for small group discussions, and for reflection on our service.

Participants served at Lazarus House Ministries in the soup kitchen, 旧货店, 在汉普郡街412号有办公室, as well as the Emergency shelter on Holly Street and food pantry at 242 Hampshire Street. 所有地点都在步行距离之内.

 

LaValla Service Weekend

Juniors are invited to join students from other 3月ist schools at the 3月ist 兄弟thers Retreat Center in Esopus, 纽约拉瓦拉周末服务.

今年的主题是经济平等. This opportunity also includes doing some manual work around the grounds of the Retreat Center.

This annual program is inspired by the foundational 社区 of the 3月ist 兄弟thers in LaValla, 法国, and invites us to live the family spirit and solidarity of the 兄弟thers and Fr. 拉瓦拉香槟.

Open to a select number of students and an adult advisor from each of the school’s in the 3月ist network, 这是一个祈祷的周末, 社区, 并在Esopus的圣母兄弟中心服务. This weekend involves working with students and adults from other 3月ist schools around the property updating or installing new features, 还有祈祷和有趣的活动.

The weekend is sponsored as a joint program of the Province of the USA Offices of 3月ist Youth Ministry and Vocations as well as the 3月ist 兄弟thers Center at Esopus.
